I have many pairs of Rudy Project, but my most versatile pair is my Rydon. I have had the same pair since 2002 and they have held up over most excellently since then. With the many years of beach volleyball tournaments and training under my belt, I can honestly say that these are my go to's when the sun it beating down hard. I love the protection I get from windy days blowing sand around, or in case my teammate misses a block and I accidentally get a ball to the face, I know my eyes are safe behind the lenses. Superstitious reasons also, I have won about 90% of my tournaments wearing Rydon, so I always go back to them if I make the finals...My good luck charm. Thanks for a most awesome product Rudy!!!
I got a new road carbon bike wanted to get some new technology sunglasses, What I liked about the Rudy Project is that the fame and nose pad are ophthalmic which means that bendable and adjustable to your face setting, as well as the lens are interchangeable. I like the idea of the Photochromic clear to darker lens.
On the photochromic lessees they had a quite a few options of options
CLEAR TO BLACK which has a Light Transmission: 9 to 74%,
CLEAR TO LASER BLACK which as a Light Transmission: 13 to 62%,
CLEAR TO LASER RED which has Light Transmission: 16 to 75%
CLEAR TO LASER BROWN which has Light Transmission: 17 to 73%.
I purchased the clear to black, and the clear to laser red lenses to try them both out see which lens would work better for me. I like the clear to black the best, the clear to red did not get much sunlight out and put a strain on my eyes and the clear to laser black would have been too dark for road cycling. Nonetheless as the lenses are interchangeable you can put on darker or amber, green. brown lens, this is good when you want to use it for other activities such as beach jet-skiing and golfing for the lighter green lens. Rudy Project also have newer POLAR 3FX technology lenses which may be worth trying.
I've used many sunglasses over the years. These are by far the best. I have brown and tortoise shell for driving and general use and white with racing red or clear lenses for cycling. The racing Red is great for transition from sun to tree cover to full shade. The clear is necessary for night track racing. I also use them as safety glasses. I have a difficult nose to fit due to an old fracture that has left a ridge at just the wrong spot.. The nose piece is super adjustable and sticks great. The temples are form-able metal which makes them durable and adjustable. You can go strait or curved depending on your desire. It's a great feature when transitioning to winter riding and fitting over a hat. The lens shape is also well thought out as they are fairly fog free with great peripheral coverage. Having the reader option for these old eyes is indispensable. The customization for these glasses are unlimited.
