I love the option to get an RX in the stylish frames. I have had 6 different ones
They are my favorite frames with or without Rx - having Rx compatible frames that provide corrected peripheral vision is indispensable in urban riding!
I have used many different glasses over the years in work and casual situations and these are by far my favorite. I have many cycling hours with these frames: light, comfortable and secure. They are well sized to prevent fogging, even at stop lights on summer rides, when both the air and this cyclist are steamy. The adjustable nose bridge and arms conform so well that they are comfortable even after hours of riding (sometimes I forget they are on). The glasses also remain securely in place despite the jarring road surfaces sometimes encountered surrounding NYC.
I had problems with my previous sunglasses, because they caused sweat to pool in my eyes when riding in high humidity. These glasses don’t do that, and are very comfortable. I also use these glasses for riding in low light conditions, and they do a great job of transmitting light and then transitioning when it is sunny outside. I highly recommend them.
I used it the first time at 66 miles Bike-a-thon in Philly. They were comfortable, covered lots of my face and super stylish.
I recently had a horrific accident where I went entirely over the handlebars, landing directly on my head and the left side of my body.
The impact was severe enough that I broke my collarbone in two places and fractured a couple of ribs. However, despite my head bouncing off the pavement twice, I walked away with absolutely zero head or neck injuries. No concussion, no trauma, nothing. The helmet took the entire force of the blow so my brain didn't have to. Looking at the damage to the helmet, it’s clear that it did exactly what it was engineered to do.
I do a lot of EMTB in Mammoth Lakes and there are loads of tall trees. Light comes and goes and with the Defender's the lenses changes so my visibility is always good. Something I think is important when riding.
