Protera MTB Helmet
I bought 2 proterra helmets. One for my wife and one for myself. these are very light and comfortable. I needed to exchange one for a different size. The process was simple. I sent the helmet on a Thursday and received the replacement on Saturday. unbelievable service.
I just started using my Protera last week. It's super comfortable and the hunting orange color really stands out in the woods. The only thing I didn't like was the visor shield. It was a little too distracting for me. It was easily removed so no big deal. Great helmet.
Received my helmet last week, this helmet doesn't quite look like the orange on the product detail page as it is, in reality, day-glow orange (look up that color and you'll get it). Construction quality is good and I don't see any glue/bonding residue anywhere that you can get on other helmets. I like the bug protector webbing that I can choose to take out or not. My head is about 58.5cm and the S/M helmet is rated to go to 59cm. putting the helmet on is very comfortable with just enough play, I can ratchet the skull carriage up a few clicks to snug the helmet up. I mtn bike in Wyoming on single track so the day-glow orange should help me not surprise any hunters!
I love a helmet that you don't remember you have on until someone compliments you on it. That's the Protera. I spend a LOT of time in this helmet and truly appreciate the thought Rudy put into it's design. I love the mesh bug stopper (wasps love me) and the size adjuster/retention system gives me a snug fit without getting caught in my hair. Bonus points for chin straps you can take out and give a good wash because, let's be honest, those can get nasty! I'm a 56cm and the S/M fits perfectly.
I have a 58cm head circumference and I wasn't sure whether to go with the Large or take the S/M.
I was afraid that I would not be able to put the helmet on, but I didn't want a helmet that was too large.
But it fits my head great!
The Protera is very comfortable as it fits my head shape very well. I've tried other helmets and I have a wider/round-ish face/head and some brands seem to fit narrow head shape as they put pressure on my temples. But the Rudy Project helmets are some of the most comfortable I have worn. I will definitely buy a road helmet to go with my Protera.
The Protera is quite light and has great protection at the back of the head, the retention system is adjustable and feels secure and more importantly it's comfortable. If you have a helmet that is comfortable then you are more likely to wear it.
