200m Swim – 6km Bike – 2km Run

Yvonne van Vlerken (NED/Endurance Team Austria) takes 2nd at Speedman Triathlon Munich, world-cup-athlete and short distance-specialist Anne Haug/GER wins the first edition.

On the ultra sprint distance of 200 m of swimming in the portable 25m-pool, 6 km bike and 2 km run on a 1000m-stadium-loop the long distance stars Yvonne van Vlerken/NED, Timo Bracht/GER and neo-pro Kristin Möller met the short-distance specialists lead by world cup-starter Anne Haug (WC 3rd Monterrey/Mex 2011), currently Germany´s best shortcourse-athlete and Olympic hope for London.

In the end Yvonne van Vlerken could hold up the flags for the long-distance, Timo Bracht became 6th in the men´s race, Kristin Möller had to settle for 9th place in the ladie´s finals.

Van Vlerken, who is in the middle of the preparations for the Frankfurter Sparkasse Ironman European Champion-ship on the 24th of July, marched, unthreatened with a victory in the quarterfinals and a 3rd rank in the semi-final, into the big final showdown of the best 10 ladies.

Then in the final run she came up with a sensational swim-performance, exited the water 2sec. behind Anne Haug. Haug had a quicker transition to the bike. Yvonne van Vlerken could make up the gap with a solo-ride and the quickest bike-time and entered T2 with the lead-pack. Haug, who used “Pyroplates”-Duathlon pedals and had bike already with the running-shoes, used the advantage and took 10 seconds lead on the run distance which was the decision with it the running even though the run performances of the two leaders were levelled. Lisa Sieburger became 3rd.

Yvonne van Vlerken (quote): „It was so much fun to be part of the first edition of the Speedman. I am more than happy with the 2nd place, it is not really my distance and I had a little bit of fear how the swim would be against those super-fast swimmers. But right there I have seen what has changed during the last 2 years. I am pretty happy I could keep up with Anne Haug in the water. Now follows the finishing touch for the Ironman-European Championship in Frankfurt. I am looking forward to the showdown there.“

In the men´s race Briton Mark Buckingham took the win.
