Vancouver firefighter Chief Rudy Pospisil is not only an avid cyclist, but a cancer survivor with a goal. Starting after his battle with prostate cancer in 2002, Rudy set about to become the first person to circumnavigate the globe by bike to raise awareness and money for cancer research.
In November, Rudy completed the latest leg of his epic, 30 country ride. Journeying over 6,000 miles from Vancouver down the West coast to Mexico, then across the Southern US to finish in St. Augustine, FL, the ride has been rough but important for Rudy. “My passion is to share and inspire people to fund raise for cancer charity, and show cancer patients that people are out here fund raising to help find a cure and give them hope.”
Gaining entry to the Guinness Book of World Records for his final achievement will be a token of the extraordinary and hard fought expedition Rudy has undertaken. Cycling an average of 100 miles a day through every form of climate has pushed Pospisil and the equipment which supports him to the limits. “The weather was extreme to say the least. The maximum temperatures were 124 F in the deserts and there was no shade or shelter for days. All that protected me was my helmet and goggles from Rudy Project. I must say, they were excellent.”
Rudy Project was proud to sponsor Mr. Pospisil in his endeavor here in the US and will be supporting him as he continues the next leg of his journey, starting in Portugal. “I tried regular sunglasses for a few hours and never used them again for the entire trip.” remarked Rudy on his Rydon II shades. “I would never depend on another product.” Pospisil also rode wearing a Rudy Project Sterling helmet, which protected him from the intense UV of the desert sun and allowed for superior airflow.
By completing this last stint, Pospisil has cycled just under halfway around the world. You can read more and track his progress at: http://www.thirty4three.com/
