FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Clemente, CA—Rudy Project, Italian crafters of performance eyewear, helmets, and sports equipment, is ecstatic to announce that team member and athlete, Johnny Vu, has been promoted to Event Sales Director for North America.  Prior to taking on this critical role, Johnny spent three years working events for Rudy Project, where he gained the valuable knowledge and essential skills necessary for his new role within the company.

vu2“We are so excited to have Johnny taking the reins at events this year,” said Paul Craig, President and Co-Founder of Rudy Project North America. “Events are critical for real time feedback, customer service, and education on a brand which is packed with so many features and benefits. This is a perfect place where people can really get a feel for how durable, versatile, and  beautifully engineered our products are, and I am confident in Johnny’s ability to get Rudy Project in the hands of as many people as possible. He’s proved himself to be one of the hardest working employees we’ve had on our team, and I’m glad he’s stepping up to a new challenge in this role.”

Johnny stepped into the triathlon world a little over four years ago when one of his good friends, Jin, was diagnosed with cancer and was faced with an inoperable brain tumor. Jin’s love of life and contagious energy never changed throughout his treatment, and it encouraged Johnny to tackle a challenge himself: an Olympic distance triathlon. Johnny finished with flying colors, and he was inspired to push himself physically and mentally for more races in the future. Since that time, Vu has completed several Olympic & sprint distance tri’s, 4 half marathons, 2 70.3s & an IRONMAN.

vu3“I had no clue about anything technical like aero helmets or looking cool while going fast when I first started racing,” Johnny shared. “I actually found out about Rudy Project by chance. A good friend and coach of mine, Felipe Acevedo, informed me that Rudy needed some help at the 2012 ITU World Triathlon San Diego. That’s where I discovered the quality of Rudy Project for the first time and fell in love with the brand. I’m looking forward to 2016 and showing off all of Rudy’s new gear, including our ImpactX-2 lenses and the new Road Aero helmet. If you’re at one of our 40 major events, swing by and say hi!”

Johnny’s signature race style features his Fluo Pink Sterling helmet paired with his Spinhawk or Jazz Shock casual shades. “I am all about the colors,” he said. “The technology behind everything at Rudy is astounding to me. I look cool, I feel like a badass, and I’m comfortable…three confidence boosters when racing!”

Through the immense opportunities Johnny has experienced while working at Rudy Project, he now shares the dream of triathletes from all over the world: racing the IRONMAN® World Championship in his home state of Hawaii. Rudy Project proudly supports Johnny on his quest for greatness, on and off the race course.
