Athletes of the World’s most Grueling Triathlon Choose Rudy Project by a Wide Margin
KAILUA-KONA – For the third year in a row, Rudy Project has been named the most worn helmet brand at the GoPro™ IRONMAN™ World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. LAVA Magazine released their official helmet count of 652 Rudy Project helmets, an incredible 236 over the nearest competitor, Giro, and a massive 513 over third place, Specialized. Unofficial numbers from spotters along the T1 bike transition put the number of Rudy Project helmets at 672, more than double the amount of helmets seen in the 2012 World Championship race.
“We knew athletes would demand nothing but the best, and the numbers overwhelmingly prove it,” said Paul Craig, President and Co-Founder of R.A.C.E., exclusive distributors of Rudy Project in North America. “Leading up to race day, we saw exceptional sales between our temporary shop at Uncle Billy’s and our new permanent, year-round store on Ali’i Drive in Kona (between ABC Store and Scandinavian Shaved Ice). Paired with the overwhelming positive reviews we’ve had on our Wingspan and new Wing 57 Aero helmets, we expected this to be a pretty exciting race. The fact that so many of the world’s top pro and age group athletes put their trust in Rudy is a humbling testament to our goals as a company. Just like them, we’re always striving to elevate our performance.”
During the equipment count this year, the move toward Aero / TT helmets became an apparent trend among most triathletes. Spotters along T1 noted the prevalence of Aero helmets among Rudy Project athletes at around 80%, with the remainder divided between the Windmax and Sterling models. “By far the most worn helmet this year was our Wingspan Aero / TT,” related Paul Craig. “It’s incredibly lightweight, has great aerodynamics, is CPSC rated and is very quick during transition due to the RSR Dial retention system that you can adjust with one hand. In addition, it is one of the most well ventilated helmets to keep you cool, perfect for grueling temperatures on the Queen K and comes in a number of bright colors, allowing athletes to match their kits and be seen on the road for safety.”
In addition to the Wingspan, this year a new, exclusive Aero / TT helmet from Rudy Project was seen on a select few pro athletes – the Wing 57. Designed with the help of aerodynamics guru John Cobb, the all new Wing 57 looks to once again revolutionize the aero helmet industry with several new patented features. These include a fully integrated and removable optical shield, a dorsal ridge to change sideways wind force into forward momentum, and the new patented Vortex Killer System which straightens air flow and significantly reduces drag. This system is possible due to a magnetic Jet Stream™ tail fin, which allows each rider to customize the helmet to their riding position.
The award-winning Wingspan Aero / TT helmet is available now at www.e-rudy.com and at authorized Rudy dealers. The all new Wing 57 Aero / TT helmet is open to a limited number of pre-orders at www.e-rudy.com and widely available through dealers in early March, 2014.
