Roth, Germany – Rudy Project Triathlete and native German, Timo Bracht delivered a flawless performance this weekend at the DATEV Challenge Roth: the largest event in European triathlon. The 30th anniversary race hosted close to 4,000 of the world’s top triathletes and over 220,000 fans who lined the Bavarian streets to cheer them on through the grueling 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike race and full 26 mile marathon. Timo ultimately pushed past them all though, running home his first Challenge Roth victory and utilizing Rudy Project performance equipment to help him get there.
“Timo has been a longstanding Rudy Project athlete and we couldn’t be happier for him,” said Chris Lupo, Director of Rudy Project’s Global Triathlon Sponsorship. “He has flirted with a victory at Roth for the past 3 years and this last weekend, he raced like a true veteran. Sticking to his race plan amongst a stacked field, he was able to finally achieve a dream win.”
With temperatures rising above 95ºF and a pro lineup of more than 50 top male and female triathletes from around the world, the Bavarian fields offered a truly daunting race. Overheating was a serious concern that took its toll on many, but Timo managed to keep his cool. Coming 8th out of the water, he relied on his new Rudy Project Wing57 Aero / TT helmet to assist in keeping an aerodynamic profile and proper cooling on the long stretches of German road. In T-2, Timo came 5th off the bike and utilized his new Rudy Project Agon sunglasses to keep focus on the race and ultimately run down an impressive victory.
Other Rudy Project athletes competing in the German countryside included Joe Gambles and Yvonne Van Vlerken who both placed 4th in the Men’s and Women’s pro race, along with 2012 IRONMAN® World Champion Pete Jacobs and fellow German athlete Per Bittner.
“I’ve dreamed of winning this race for the past 10 years,” said Bracht at the post-race press conference. “But dreaming alone was not enough. I’ve finally done it.” Timo ran his first Challenge Roth in the year 2000 and since then has scaled places, now reaching the top of the podium.
After the race, Timo headed back to the fields for an exclusive photo-shoot with Rudy Project photographer Jose Andrés Vargas – To see more killer shots and many more from Challenge Roth, check out the Rudy Project North America Facebook page.
