Rudy Project North America, crafter of Italian made sunglasses, helmets, gear, and prescription eyewear solutions has signed on as the Official Eyewear and Helmet of the new Stetina’s Sierra Prospect Ride, slated for September 23-24, in Truckee, CA. The grand fondo-style ride is the brain-child of Peter Stetina, an American pro-cyclist most recently known for his hard work as part of the powerhouse Trek-Segafredo team.
“When Peter approached us and asked about us getting on board as the Official Sunglass and Helmet, we jumped at the chance,” said Paul Craig, President and Co-Founder of Rudy Project North America. “Peter is a fantastic ambassador for the sport and athletes everywhere, and something this big that benefits a fantastic organization like the High Fives Foundation is definitely something we wanted to be a part of and echoes our commitment to give back to the sport and community.”
Rudy Project North America is the Official Helmet and Sunglass of the Sierra Prospect Ride, and will be providing an exclusive custom Tralyx sunglass to twelve riders. In keeping with the ride’s theme of ‘striking gold,’ the exclusive sunglass with feature Rudy Project’s eye-catching Gold Velvet frame, paired with a Smoke Black lens. The official helmet is the Gold Velvet RaceMaster, the same helmet that Vincenzo Nibali sported on the Giro d’Italia podium this year.
Stetina’s Sierra Prospect Ride is a recreational ride scored with five road rally segments, the perfect mix of competition and camaraderie. The timed segments are spread throughout the Lake Tahoe route, and encourage riders to compete for the Overall Classification, or just go all out on one or a few segments. The race format encourages riders to pedal as fast or casually as they want, and take in the stunning Sierra Nevada landscape around them, aided by the visual clarity of Rudy Project’s performance sunglasses. Stetina thinks of the roads around Tahoe as his spiritual home; it’s where he’s trained for some of the world’s biggest races, such as the Amgen Tour of California, and the Tour de France, and it’s where he began to come back into his own after a severe crash in 2015 left him with a broken leg and months of reconstructive surgery and rehab. “It’s my power place, it’s the world’s best spot for altitude training,” said Peter Stetina of the Lake Tahoe region. “It’s an elegant yet challenging place to ride, and we’ve expanded on that with a descent into the Nevada desert. To have that contrast between the alpine blue and burnt desert will be unique.”
“Stetina’s Sierra Prospect is in an unforgettable location,” said Kris Lunning, the Partnerships and Marketing Director for ride organizer Bike Monkey. “We hope riders have a truly unparalleled adventure. If it’s not a bucket list event for years to come, we’re not doing it right.”
The ride itself is bookended by a beer release party (Stetina is collaborating with Revision Brewing Company to produce a special brew dedicated to the ride), the Segafredo Coffee Ride, yoga for cyclists, and a fine-dining fundraising gala for the High Fives Foundation at Tahoe’s Northstar Resort. The road rally itself is scheduled for Sunday, September 24th, and the whole weekend wraps up with a cycling festival and awards ceremony. Riders who register prior to the event receive a whole host of goodies, including Segafredo coffee beans, a custom Sierra Prospect tin camping mug, and VIP pricing on Rudy Project sunglasses, prescription eyewear, and helmets. Winners of the timed segments will also receive one of 12 free Rudy Project custom sunglasses or helmets as part of the prize package.
Riders who take advantage of the VIP pricing from Rudy Project can ride secure knowing that their Made in Italy Since 1985 sunglasses are covered by a 3 Year Frame Warranty, and a Lifetime Replacement Lens Guarantee. All Rudy Project helmets purchased in North America are covered by a 3-year manufacturer warranty and a 6 Year Crash Replacement Guarantee, heralded by cyclists, triathletes, inline skaters, and adrenaline junkies all over the world as the “Best Helmet Warranty and Crash Replacement Program on the Planet.”
