Remember the name. Ben Kanute is one of the hardest working athletes out there, and he made his mark last year when he took second place at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship. Desert Crossing

On November 1, 2006, former “pack a day smoker” turned ultra runner Ray Zahab and two friends, Charlie Engle and Kevin Lin, both accomplished runners, set out on an expedition to cross the Sahara Desert by foot. 111 days and 7,500 kms after leaving the coast of Senegal, Africa they completed their journey by stepping into the Red Sea. In 2009, Ray and his team  broke a world speed record for an unsupported expedition by a team to the South Pole. In 2011, Ray ran the length of the ‘driest desert on Earth’, the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. Now, he’s just finishing a 1,230 mile run along the length of the Namibian Desert, and is working to engage students around the world daily, by publishing videos and photos as they  engage with the natural world.

Kaia Schmid: Moguls and Cowbells

The first weekend in February, Kaia Schmid took second in her  age group at the Rocky Mountain Division Freestyle event in Winter Park. Kaia also specializes in cyclocross, demonstrating that you can enjoy doing more than  one crazy insane sport.
